Accidentally found the original NX-01 shuttlepod when I searched of detailed shots for the Enterprise.
Played a little with the basic shape that I found very cool and decided to finish the mesh.
The main differences are the engines with bended, retractable wings and a deployable landing gear.
Slightly better renders but still far from the intended results.
@lennier1: Indeed, though from what I know, this is several orders of magnitude bigger. Here's an overview of everything as it was designed. Things were built a little different, some corridors were made shorter, others were added to compensate (for example, bridge and cargo bay were not build directly connected on ship 2).
More progress on the aux control room. I've made the control consoles at the sides of the table longer, and tweaked the shape of the table itself, to me it works a lot better now. I've also added more details all around, like a proper ceiling and spotlights, removable panels on the walls, pipes similar to those seen in the Enterprise-A and B, etc. It's still missing the displays for the central table, but other than that, I'm fairly happy with how things are looking.
Final iteration of this scene I think so off it goes to final work.
Just had an itch and figured I would spend a few days with whatever models I had available in vray. (sadly so much is locked up in mental ray land and conversions give me ulcers.
This is an original design of mine. Some sort of orbital fighter inspired by the Tigershark from Wing Commander Prophecy and of course in orbital black and white like the Shuttle.
I'm hoping to figure out texture painting in blender to do decals or at least brush up on texture skills. Also, would like to figure out an easy way to animate RCS firing while maneuvering.
It's got hatches for radiators and air intakes for atmospheric flight, but I'll have to design some wings
